Elizabeth Cooksey, PhD
Director, Center for Human Resource Research and Professor, Department of Sociology, The Ohio State University
Elizabeth Cooksey received her MA and PhD in Sociology from Brown University and then held a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Carolina Population Center, UNC, Chapel Hill. A social demographer by training, Dr. Cooksey is currently the Director of the Center for Human Resource Research (CHRR) which was created just over 50 years ago to undertake the first National Longitudinal Survey. CHRR has played a major part in all seven U.S. National Longitudinal Surveys and continues to do so today for the three ongoing studies: the NLSY79, NLSY97 and the NLSY79 Child and Young Adult for which Dr. Cooksey has been PI for the past decade. Her main research interests focus on early childhood through young adulthood and have a strong life course component. She has a special interest in adolescent sexual and pregnancy behaviors, on the transition to adulthood and on linkages between family situations (family structure, maternal employment) and child health and development. She has been Chair of the American Sociological Society’s Section on Children and Youth and served as President of the Society for Longitudinal and Life Course Studies. She has published widely and received many grants from the NIH for her work.« Back
